This blog is about LITERACY development.
This blog's posts are for parents, teachers, administrators, tutors, and all those interested in literacy, literature, and reading intervention. My hope is that it will improve literacy development in homes, classrooms, tutorials, and therapy sessions across the nation.
About the person behind the blog:
I am Courtney Riggin, the facilitator and artist for this blog. I am both a teacher and a student.
I am currently working on my Orton-Gillingham certification through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators and my M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction for Children’s Literature and certificate in Family Literacy through The Pennsylvania State University.
While completing my degree, I am tutoring for a non-profit reading intervention service called The Augustine Project. I have a B.A. in English from Auburn University as well as training in the The Wilson Reading System and the Lindamood-Bell language intervention programs. I have worked in the classroom, a child psychologist’s office, and in a private tutorial setting for students ranging from Kindergarten to 12th grade.
I began this blog to serve parents and educators as a resource for children's literature, reading instruction, attention-deficit disorders, and language-based learning disabilities as well as early literacy development.
My vision is for this blog to be both an inlet and an outlet. I want other teachers to be able to benefit from my mistakes, ideas, research, and victories as I go through the process of becoming an effective teacher, and my hope is that other students, educators and parents will want to contribute to this blog through commenting on posts and submitting writings about their own experiences.
